on Kew

Autumn has arrived. Been able to haul out my big wooly jumpers and snuggle up with bowl fulls of ale stew… bliss!

To fully enjoy autumn you need to be out there in it, and what better place than Kew Gardens to watch the changing of the seasons.

There are always new corners to explore, like the Pagoda and the Japanese Gardens.

Personally, I am there for the trees. There are just so many species there you can’t keep track! Not to mention all sorts of wild life, like this poor peacock I disturbed… he’s giving me the eye…

Picks of the day include the Giant American Redwood. Apparently this one is a tiddler, can’t even get it into a bear hug. The average trunk diameter of one of these beasts is 8m… supersized sir?

Then there are the Gum trees. Roll about under one of these (carefully) and that is what Australia smells like to me… you know, coz every country has it’s smell.

Finally, tree of the day goes to: Zelkova Schneideriana from China. Love the twisty branches and the beautiful bark.

Had to restrain myself from climbing this one, ’tis not only frowned upon, but I suspect it’s against garden rules!

A truly beautifully spanking autumn day.

The plan: cardio intervals! 18 minutes HIIT with an emphasis on rope work! 3 rounds of 6 exercises. Each exercise performed for 50 seconds and 10 seconds rest in between!

  • High knees skipping
  • Diving monkeys
  • High knees skipping
  • Medicine ball jump lunge and twist
  • High knees skipping
  • Kettle bell (or whatever) swings
